When you've got a bump, sex doesn't have to be dull! If you're having trouble getting into a pleasurable sex position while pregnant, our top sex positions for pregnancy will show you and your partner how to get intimate, no matter what trimester you're in.

Classic missionary

Suitable for: First, second, and maybe third trimesters, depending on how comfortable you are.

What it’s good for:  If you’re tired then this position enables you to lie back and relax while your partner does most of the work! Lying face-to-face this posittion helps to make the experience more intimate and your partner can also touch you while you’re having sex.

What to be careful of: In the third trimester, you can feel dizzy if you lie on your back.in that situation, use pillows to sit up slightly. Regardless of the trimester, you may find it more comfortable to do this anyway.

You may also feel uneasy if your partner is resting too much of his weight on your bump, so let him know and transition to the modified missionary (below) if necessary.

Spooning

Suitable for: All three trimesters, but especially the third, when your pregnancy makes it very tough to come close face to face!

In your first and second trimesters, you can also prop your bump up on a cushion and roll over to your front to make it easier for your partner to enter you.

What it’s good for: Your partner's hands are free to touch you and stimulate your clitoris during sex in this position. He may also easily extract his penis and massage it on your clitoris.

What to be careful of: Penetration can be relatively shallow in this position, so if you want it deeper, this may not be the position for you.

You on top

Suitable for: All three trimesters.

In this position, you may also lean forward and hold the back of the bed for further support and bounce control! To get closer to you, your lover can prop himself up on pillows. This position is also ideal for a brief nap on the couch!

What it’s good for: This position is great for most ladies because it does not need you to open your legs too wide. While you're having sex, your lover can reach your clitoris or breasts. According to studies, this position provides women more pleasure than others, and your boyfriend benefits from being able to see how beautiful you are during sex!

What to be careful of: Squatting can become difficult in the third trimester when it’s harder to support your growing bump. You can try kneeling over him instead.

Doggy style

Suitable for: All three trimesters but especially useful for the third trimester when your bump can get in the way.

What it’s good for: If you are having back or pelvic pain, this posture is perfect for relieving strain on your back and pelvis. While you're having sex, your partner can reach around and stimulate your clitoris.

If you're feeling tired, rest your weight on cushions and pillows and simply enjoy the moment. You can also try this position on your hands and knees near the bed's edge, with your spouse standing at the foot.

What to be careful of: If you have carpal tunnel syndrome or aching wrists, you may need to relieve some of the pressure by standing against a wall or leaning over a sofa.

What it’s good for: Face-to-face lying can feel very intimate and loving. While having sex, you can kiss, hug, and keep eye contact.

Side saddle

Suitable for: First and second and possibly third trimesters and  depending on how much comfortable you are

What it’s good for: In this position, your lover does all of the effort, allowing you to lie back and rest while his hands are free to touch your breasts and clitoris.
