Pregnancy at week 14

Pregnancy at week 14

Your baby

By 14 weeks, your baby weighs about 45g and measures about 11cm long, or like the  size of a lemon. Its organs, including the ovaries and testicles, have formed.

The face is becoming more distinguishable, with a longer neck and fully developed eyes hidden behind fused eyelids. The nails on the fingers and toes are growing.

The baby's reflexes have begun to function; if you touched their hands or feet, they would coil or close.  you can't see it, the baby is moving around. The baby's vocal cords are active, and he or she can cry.

Your body

Many women begin to feel more energized and active throughout the second trimester. Hopefully, your morning sickness has reduces and you are feeling more at ease.

Your 'baby bump' may begin to become more visible. Your breasts may be growing in size and producing colostrum.

On your body, you may notice the development of new moles or skin tags. These are not cause for concern, but consult with your doctor or midwife.

Things to remember

Now you’re feeling more energetic, doing more physical activity will help keep fit and healthy. Exercising will help you to prevent you from gaining too much weight and is also good for your mood.

If you were fit and active before becoming pregnant, you can continue with a light to moderate exercise schedule. However, don't start doing a lot of activity for the first time when pregnant. Discuss your options with your doctor.

Aim for 150 minutes of moderate-intensity activity per week, or 30 minutes on most days. While pregnant, recommended not to do exercise for more than 60 minutes at a time. Aerobic and strengthening exercises are both acceptable.
